The Gunflint Trail was listed as a National Scenic Byway back in 2009. It winds its way through lakes and hills for approximately 57 miles. Near the end of the trail you will find the Chik-Wauk Museum and Nature Center. Here you can learn about how the Gunflint Trail had its beginnings. Our family has made frequent stops at Trail Center Lodge on Poplar Lake for a meal. The decor is very unique. It provides a great spot to stretch your legs as you make your way up the trail.
Another nice place to take the family is Honeymoon Bluff overlooking Hungry Jack Lake. You will also find many other hiking trail options using this link Hiking Trail Options
You will find many lodging options and restaurants such as:
GOLDEN EAGLE LODGE/RESORT & CAMPGROUND
HESTON’S LODGE
TROUT LAKE RESORT
NorWester Lodge & Outfitters
They offer boat/motor, canoe, kayak, and pontoon rentals. In addition to hiking trails you can fish for rainbow trout, lake trout, speckled trout, brook trout, northern pike and smallmouth bass. Take BWCA day trips too.
